Question: Hi Guys,I am researching an inexpensive ethernet based power monitoring system that will allow me to monitor power consumption in different residential buildings on our resort? We have network everywhere so we would prefer that to having to run serial cables.I also need a software solution that allows common area billing, calculation of power factor, peak consumption, and doesn't cost vast sums of money. I would love to hear anyone's experience in this area.Chris MasonAnguilla.[ August 02, 2004, 07:15 AM: Message edited by: masonc ]

Hello Chris,I would recommend the Power Insight system from Elster Metering. It is a fairly inexpensive system that uses the existing Ethernet infrastructure. You may also want to consider using the Direct Energy software solution; it is also fairly inexpensive and will calculate all of the power quality parameters that you are looking for.I have used this system in many commercial applications and it is very user friendly and the support is excellent. Elster also has a power monitoring system that uses a wireless mesh network called "PowerInsight Ad Hoc" that you may want to check out. Here is a link to the Elster website for the Power Insight system:http://www.elster-metering.com/html/products/powerinsight.aspHere is a link to the Direct Energy website for their software solution:http://www.directenergybusiness.com/PowerQuality/I hope this helps.BestRegards,Shannon C.
