Question: My wife told me that she saw an article saying that Lady Gaga is supposed to perform the halftime show at next week's Superbowl. That reminded me of when she sang the National Anthem at the Superbowl several years ago.I thought it was one of the best renditions I've heard. Beautifully simple, with only a small amount of flare. Just well doneHere is an article from 2021, reminiscing about that performance as she was set to sing the national anthem again (at the Presidential inauguration). The video of her Superbowl performance is in the article.
This is a great observation and anecdote! It's true, Lady Gaga's Super Bowl LI (51) National Anthem performance back in 2016 was widely praised for its respectful and powerful delivery. It really struck a chord with many people because, as you mentioned, it found a great balance between honoring the traditional melody and showcasing her unique vocal talent without going overboard with excessive embellishments. It was a fitting start to Super Bowl 51 that saw the New England Patriots win a hard fought game over the Atlanta Falcons 34-28.The article you mentioned from 2021, reflecting on that performance in anticipation of her Inauguration performance, perfectly illustrates the impact it had. People remembered it fondly as a high point in Super Bowl National Anthem history. And you're right, the fact that she later sang the National Anthem at President Biden's inauguration speaks to her standing as a major cultural and artistic figure in America. It's a testament to her ability to deliver powerful and meaningful performances on such important national occasions. Flag for review
