Question: Infratech 4000 w 240v heater has 16.7 amp rating. 16.7 X 1.25 = 20.9 amps which is too high for Cu # 12 Romex, correct ?

Yes, you are correct. Infratech 4000W, 240V heater

Rated at 16.7 amps.

NEC Requirement

Continuous loads (like heaters) require conductors to be rated for 125% of the continuous load current.

Calculation

16.7 amps
1.25 = 20.875 amps (round up to 20.9 amps)*

#12 AWG Copper Romex:
Typically rated for 20 amps at 90°C, but under most circumstances, it is limited to the 60°C or 75°C ampacity, which is 20 amps.Therefore, a #12 AWG copper conductor is insufficient for the Infratech heater circuit if the heater is considered a continuous load. You would need to use #10 AWG copper. Flag for review
