Question: Basically I have a site with a ldm z10 that controls lights but they are always on. I am going to start by replacing the lighting transmitter and hope that fixes the problem. I am trying to figure out how to access the schedule if one has been set but not finding much online. The one manual I can find says press button 1 and 4 together but it doesn't actually include the z10 as a model in the manual so I don't know if that will work. I will probably be back on site in two weeks so I am hoping someone can lead me in the right direction before then.

Okay, let's troubleshoot this LDM Z10 lighting control issue. It's great that you're taking a methodical approach. Before you start replacing parts, let's exhaust some of the likely software (schedule) based issues.

Understanding the Problem

The core problem is that all lights controlled by the LDM Z10 are constantly on, suggesting either a hardware failure (transmitter), a misconfiguration, or an overridden schedule.

Steps Before Replacing the Transmitter (Good Thinking!)
1. Model Verification

Double-check the exact model number of your LDM unit. There might be slight variations that make a big difference in the user interface. Look for labels on the front, sides, or back. Having the exact model will improve your search results.2.

Try the Button Combination

Even though the manual doesn't explicitly list the Z10, it's worth a shot. Press and hold buttons 1 and 4 together for several seconds (5-10). Watch for any change in the display, blinking lights, or anything that might indicate you've entered a programming mode. Make sure your fingers aren't slipping and you're pressing firmly.3.

Look for an Override Switch

Many lighting control systems have a physical override switch (often labeled "Override," "Force On," "Manual"). Make absolutely sure this isn't engaged. It might be a small toggle switch near the Z10 unit or in the electrical panel feeding the lights. It's a simple thing, but often the cause.4.

Display and Indicators

Carefully examine the Z10's display (if it has one) and any indicator LEDs.

Display

Is anything showing on the display? Are there any obvious error messages? Is it displaying the current time? Is it displaying what seems to be an active lighting zone that shouldn't be on?

LEDs

What LEDs are lit up? Are any LEDs blinking? The manual (even an incomplete one) should describe what the LEDs indicate.5.

Power Cycle

A simple power cycle of the Z10 (turning it off and on) can sometimes clear a hung process or reset the system to a default state. Locate the breaker in the panel, and turn it off and back on. Wait 10 seconds before turning back on.

Possible Scenarios Regarding the Schedule (Assuming it Exists)
Always On Schedule

The schedule might have been programmed to simply keep all lights on 24/7. This is unlikely but possible.

Incorrect Time

The Z10's internal clock might be wildly inaccurate. If the schedule is time-based, it might think it's always the time to turn the lights on.

Schedule is Disabled

The schedule might be programmed, but
disabled. There's usually a way to enable/disable schedules within the programming menu.

Default Setting

It is possible the default is for all lights to be on until something is programmed

Finding More Information

Manufacturer's Website

Visit the LDM website (or the website of the company that manufactured the Z10) and search for manuals, FAQs, and troubleshooting guides for the Z10. Look for keywords like "schedule," "programming," "default settings," "reset," and "troubleshooting."

Electrical Contractor/Installer

If you know who installed the system, contact them. They might have documentation or experience with the Z10.

Online Forums

Search for forums related to lighting control systems, building automation, or similar technologies. You might find someone who has worked with the LDM Z10 before.

Plan for Your Next On-Site Visit

Take Pictures

Before you do anything, take clear pictures of the Z10 unit, its wiring connections, any labels, and the surrounding electrical panel.2.

Bring a Multimeter

This will allow you to check for voltage at various points in the system if necessary.3.

Download Manuals (if you can find them) to your phone or tablet

Having a digital copy of the manual will be invaluable.4.

Prepare to spend time methodically going through the steps above.
5. Prepare to record what you do so you can share with a professional if you cannot figure it outAbout Replacing the Transmitter (Your Original Plan)

Replacing the transmitter
might fix the problem, but it's best to rule out other causes first. A transmitter failure typically results in no control over the lights, not lights being constantly on. Constant lights on is usually a setting or override issue.

What to Do When You're Back On-Site

Begin with the simple steps
: Override switch, power cycle, and button combination.2. If you're able to access a menu: Explore the menus, looking for time settings, schedule settings, enable/disable options, and default settings. Take notes of what you see.3. If all else fails: Contact a qualified electrician or lighting control system technician. They will have the tools and expertise to diagnose and repair the problem.

Important Safety Note

Electrical work can be dangerous. If you are not comfortable working with electricity, consult a qualified electrician.
Turn off the power to the circuit before disconnecting or reconnecting any wires.Good luck! Let me know how it goes, and if you find the exact model number or make any progress. I'm here to help if you get stuck. Flag for review
