Question: I learned this morning, or relearned because I had forgotten, that all the information about posters to the left of posts, does not show up on my cell. It does on my PC or iPad, but not my cell.

Yes, this is a common design choice in website development, particularly for forums and community platforms. The reason why the user information (like avatar, username, location, post count, etc.) that's typically displayed to the left of a post on desktop doesn't show up on mobile is due to responsive design principles and screen real estate constraints.

Here's a breakdown of why: Limited Screen Width

Mobile phones have significantly smaller screens than desktops or even tablets. Displaying the poster information to the left of the content on a small screen would severely reduce the space available for the actual post content, making it difficult to read and engage with.

Readability and User Experience

Prioritizing the actual post content is crucial for a good mobile user experience. Cramming in extra information would make the page feel cluttered and overwhelming.

Responsive Design Techniques

Responsive design involves rearranging and adapting website elements based on the screen size. A common technique is to either hide the left-side information entirely on smaller screens or move it to a different location, such as:

Above the Post

The poster information might appear above the post content on mobile.

Below the Post

Sometimes, the information is placed below the post content.

A Collapsible Menu/Icon

A user might need to tap an icon (like an avatar or a menu icon) to reveal the poster information.*

Data Minimization

Mobile users are often on the go and have limited data bandwidth. Loading unnecessary elements (like large avatars) that aren't directly related to the core content can impact page load times and data consumption.

In summary, the disappearance of the left-side information on mobile is a deliberate design decision to prioritize readability, user experience, and efficient use of limited screen space. The information is usually either hidden or repositioned elsewhere on the page.
