Question: the question states that there are (5) 12.4 kw ranges. the given answer for the load was 20 kw. how can column c apply when it states (not over 12 kw rating) ? I thought note 1 below 220.55 would be applied ?

Note 1 below 220.55 would not apply because the question states that there are (5) 12.4 kw ranges. The total load of the ranges is 5 x 12.4 kw = 62 kw. This is greater than the 42 kw maximum load allowed by Note 1 below 220.
55.Column C applies because the total load of the ranges (62 kw) is greater than the 12 kw rating limit for ranges specified in Column C. Therefore, the load must be calculated using the demand factors in Column C.The demand factor for (5) ranges in Column C is 40%. Therefore, the load for the ranges is 62 kw x 40% = 24.8 kw.The total load for the kitchen is 24.8 kw + 2.2 kw (for the dishwasher) = 27 kw. Flag for review
