Question: Just curious. When both the norm/em feeder are tagged to be concrete encased how is this achieved if the em feed is being feed from roof(genny) and the FP is 10 floors below. Is the vertical polrtion really concrete encased or is MI cable used? THanks.

In cases where the norm/em feeder is tagged to be concrete encased, but the em feed is coming from the roof (genny) and the FP is 10 floors below, there are a few possible solutions:1. Concrete Encased Conduit

The vertical portion of the feeder can be installed in concrete-encased conduit, even if part of the feeder is fed from the roof. The concrete encasement can start at the point where the feeder enters the conduit below the roof and extend all the way to the floor where the FP is located. This method provides the required level of protection for the feeder from fire and other hazards.2.

Mineral Insulated (MI) Cable

MI cable can be used for both the vertical and horizontal portions of the feeder. MI cable is a type of cable with a copper or aluminum conductor surrounded by a layer of mineral insulation. The mineral insulation provides excellent protection against fire and other hazards, eliminating the need for concrete encasement.3.

Transition to MI Cable:
The vertical portion of the feeder can be installed in concrete-encased conduit up to a certain point, and then transition to MI cable for the remainder of the run. This is useful when there is limited access or space for installing conduit in certain areas. The transition point should be made in an accessible location for maintenance or replacement purposes. The choice of method depends on factors such as the building design, available space, and cost considerations. It is recommended to consult with an electrical engineer to determine the most suitable solution for the specific application. Flag for review
