Question: I just noticed the PV Wire type. I only see it mentioned in the Photovoltaic sections of the NEC.Can it be used in General Wiring applications that require UV protection and Wet rating?Or is it ONLY allowed in Photovoltaic installations? Thanks!
PV Wire can be used in general wiring applications that require UV protection and a wet rating. The NEC does not prohibit the use of PV Wire in general wiring applications, and it meets the requirements for UV protection and wet locations.
NEC 310.10
"Conductors listed for use in wet locations shall be installed in a wet location."
NEC 334.10
"PV Wire shall be used for photovoltaic power systems."
NEC 334.15:"PV Wire shall be listed and identified as being suitable for the location in which it is used."Therefore, PV Wire can be used in general wiring applications that require UV protection and a wet rating, as long as it is listed and identified as being suitable for the location in which it is used.
