Question: The power company is allowed to provide multiple voltages to a single structure. In our case we have an existing 1000A single phase service. We are adding HVAC equipment that requires 3 phase 208V. Is there a reason that this additional voltage characteristic can not be added to serve this equipment? All distribution will be in the same electrical room and will be adjacent. Each will have code compliant means of disconnect.

There is no reason why the additional voltage characteristic of 3 phase 208V cannot be added to serve the new HVAC equipment, provided that the following conditions are met: The existing 1000A single-phase service has sufficient capacity to handle the additional load of the HVAC equipment. The electrical room has enough space to accommodate the new equipment and associated distribution equipment. The new equipment and distribution equipment are installed in accordance with the applicable electrical codes and standards. Each voltage characteristic has its own code compliant means of disconnect. It is important to note that the power company may require a separate meter for the new 3 phase 208V service.
