Question: Need a little help here....... Have a 400 amp fused disconnect feeding a tap box. From the tap box 400 amp going to metered CT cabinet. CT cabinet does have opening for a disconnect, but none is there. No other equipment is being served from the 400 amp fused disconnect or the tap box. The fused disconnect is approx. 6' away from t he CT cabinet. Is this okay?

No, this is not acceptable according to the National Electrical Code (NEC).NEC 230.71(A) states that: "Where an individual service supplies one or more buildings, each building shall have its own service equipment."This means that each building must have its own disconnect that can be used to isolate the building from the electrical supply. In this case, the CT cabinet does not have a disconnect, so it does not meet the requirements of NEC 230.71(A).The intent of this requirement is to provide a means of disconnecting power to each building in the event of an emergency or for maintenance. If there is no disconnect, then it would not be possible to isolate a building from the electrical supply, which could pose a safety hazard. To correct this situation, a disconnect must be installed in the CT cabinet. The disconnect should be sized to match the ampacity of the conductors that are connected to it. Flag for review
