Question: Hi Guys, okay I came across a very interesting multiple choice question in my passbook about grounding. Here it is:With regard to the grounding of electrical systems, it is CORRECT to state that electrical systemsA. must always be groundedB. must be provided with a ground detector, if ungroundedC. must always have a separate grounding conductorD. of less than fifty volts need not be groundedI would have thought 'B' would be the answer because the definition of 'Grounding Conductor" in article 100 is: A conductor used to connect equipment or the grounded circuit of a wiring system to a grounding electrode or electrodes. An ungrounded system has an electrode and the definition say's nothing about connecting a grounding conductor to the service neutral. What do you guys think?
According to the National Electrical Code (NEC), the correct answer is A. must always be grounded.Article 250.4(A)(1) of the NEC states: "Electrical systems and circuits shall be grounded as specified in this article." This means that all electrical systems, regardless of their voltage, must be grounded.
Answer B is incorrect because it is not always necessary to provide a ground detector for an ungrounded system. Answer C is incorrect because it is not always necessary to have a separate grounding conductor. Answer D is incorrect because electrical systems of less than fifty volts do need to be grounded.
