Question: I have a wood burning stove in one room and this room can get into the 90's in the winter. Since it is a more rustic room I used black stove pipe at the ceiling to draw the hot air into the other rooms. I am using a standard ac blower motor to draw the air out. It pulls about 5-6 amps. Is there a compatitable dc motor? Do the Dc motors have a bridge rectifier inside to convert? Would getting a small solar panel and a inverter be a better cost effective way to run this system?
DC Motor Compatibility
Yes, there are compatible DC motors for your application. You will need a DC motor that: Has similar power output to the AC motor (5-6 amps) Can operate on the same voltage as your solar panelsYou will need a bridge rectifier to convert the AC power from the solar panels to DC power for the motor.
Cost-Effectiveness
Whether a solar panel and inverter system or a DC motor is more cost-effective depends on several factors: Solar panel cost
The cost of solar panels varies depending on the size and efficiency.
Inverter cost
Inverters convert DC power from solar panels to AC power for the motor.
DC motor cost
DC motors are typically more expensive than AC motors.
Electricity costs
If you have access to affordable electricity, it may be cheaper to run the AC motor on the grid.In general, if you have a lot of sunlight and the cost of electricity is high, a solar panel and inverter system may be more cost-effective in the long run. However, if the initial investment is too high or you do not have sufficient sunlight, a DC motor may be a better option.
Additional Considerations Safety
Ensure that the electrical wiring and connections are properly installed and maintained to prevent electrical fires.
Overheating
Monitor the temperature of the DC motor to prevent overheating.*
Ventilation: Proper ventilation is crucial to prevent smoke buildup from the wood-burning stove in the room where the motor is located. Flag for review
