Question: The many questions and scenarios are flowing at me fast. New question -It is our practice to open the disconnect to our stations (water lift stations) to test for power when the station reports a power outage. The test is on the Edison side of the disconnect. What is the required PPE for this testing (<600vac)? A majority of these instances are during rain storms. When it is dark, how are we to see our volt meter reading if we are required to wear a dark shield?

PPE Requirements for Power Testing (<600Vac) Safety glasses with side shields Insulated gloves rated for the voltage being tested Arc-rated long-sleeve shirt and pants (NFPA 70E Category 2 or higher) Hard hat (if working near overhead equipment) Insulated boots or safety shoes with rubber soles Leather or rubber gloves (optional)Considerations for Darkness Use a flashlight or headlamp to illuminate the volt meter reading. For extended periods of darkness, consider using a hooded headlamp with a visor to block out peripheral light sources while allowing you to see the meter reading. If possible, avoid testing in complete darkness.

Additional Safety Precautions
Ensure all personnel are trained and qualified to perform the testing. Follow established safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures. Use insulated tools and equipment. Test the voltage on all three phases before energizing the equipment. Visually inspect the disconnect and surrounding area before opening it. Keep a safe distance from energized equipment and conductors. If the disconnect is in a wet or damp location, consider using a waterproof enclosure or barrier.* Be aware of potential water hazards during rain storms and take appropriate precautions.
