Question: I have to install some ceiling wire for fixture support, the steel junior beams are about 18 ft. high. Does anyone know how to make the pole that is used to twist the wire? I've seen the commercialy available poles, but i also remember seeing a pole that was made on the jobsite with emt.

Materials

10 feet of 1/2-inch EMT conduit 3 feet of 1/2-inch water pipe 2-inch PVC coupling 1-inch PVC coupling 2 hose clamps

Tools

Hacksaw Pipe cutter Drill 1/4-inch drill bit Screws

Instructions

1.

Cut the EMT and water pipe

- Cut 10 feet of 1/2-inch EMT conduit.- Cut 3 feet of 1/2-inch water pipe.2.

Assemble the PVC couplings

- Insert the 2-inch PVC coupling onto the end of the EMT conduit.- Insert the 1-inch PVC coupling onto the end of the water pipe.3.

Attach the water pipe to the EMT conduit

- Align the 1-inch PVC coupling on the water pipe with the 2-inch PVC coupling on the EMT conduit.- Secure the two couplings together using two hose clamps.4.

Drill holes for the screws

- Choose three locations along the EMT conduit where you want to attach the screws.- Drill 1/4-inch holes at these locations.5.

Attach the screws

- Insert 1-inch screws through the holes in the EMT conduit and into the water pipe.- Tighten the screws securely.6.

Finishing

- Use a hacksaw to trim off any excess PVC couplings that extend beyond the end of the EMT conduit or water pipe.

To use the pole

1. Insert the ceiling wire into the bottom of the EMT conduit.
2. Use the water pipe as a handle to twist the EMT conduit and advance the wire.3. Continue twisting the water pipe until the wire reaches the desired height.

Tips:
For additional reach, you can add an extension pole to the end of the EMT conduit. To prevent the wire from slipping, use a wire puller or a piece of tape to secure it to the pole.* Be careful not to overtighten the hose clamps, as this could damage the PVC couplings. Flag for review
