Question: I have production meter 320 amp single phase on the load side of a 400 amp main non fusible disconnect to shut off solar. To keep my neutral from being bonded to my meter enclosure I was going to just bug them together and hit the enclosure with my equipment ground to keep them separate . Anyone see anything against this? This is for a solar job. Its all outside. Thanks mike

Yes, there are issues with this approach.

NEC Violation

The National Electrical Code (NEC) requires that the grounding electrode conductor (GEC) be connected to the electrical service enclosure, not to a separate enclosure or device. Bonding the meter enclosure to the equipment grounding conductor (EGC) would violate this requirement.

Safety Hazard

Separating the neutral from the enclosure may create a safety hazard. If a fault occurs, electricity could flow through the meter enclosure and potentially shock anyone who touches it.

Recommended Solution

The proper solution is to install a separate grounding electrode conductor (GEC) from the electrical service enclosure to an approved grounding electrode, such as a ground rod or water pipe. This will provide a safe and code-compliant grounding path for the system.

Additional Considerations:
The solar panel array must also be properly grounded according to NEC requirements. All electrical connections should be made in accordance with NEC standards.* It is advisable to consult with a qualified electrician for proper installation and grounding. Flag for review
