Question: Here is the situation, GC wants to use pre cast pole bases with a 1" conduit stubbing out of them, specs call for me running a 2" to the pole base. Are you allowed to use a reducer and change conduit sizes without a box? I don't think so but cant find it in code book for sure.
According to the National Electrical Code (NEC), a reducer can be used to change conduit sizes without a box only if the following conditions are met: The reducer is listed for the purpose. The reducer is installed in a location that is accessible for inspection and maintenance. The reducer is used to connect two conduits of the same material. The reducer is securely fastened to the conduits. In this case, the GC wants to use a reducer to connect a 2" conduit to a 1" conduit stubbing out of a pre-cast pole base. The reducer is not listed for the purpose of connecting two conduits of different sizes. Therefore, a reducer cannot be used in this case without a box. Flag for review
