Question: Can someone help me find the correct information source/code that would deal with fire doors being required to be tied to a FACP?Are there situations in which there release would be permissible by means other than facp release or local smokes rated for releasing service? For instance, fire vertical fire doors that have fusible links and a controller, but they are NOT released by anything external? How about a horizontal fire door that doesn't have smokes or a facp tie in??

NFPA 105: Standard for Smoke Door Assemblies and Other Opening ProtectivesRequirement for FACP Tie-in

Section 5.3.1: All fire doors required to be automatic by NFPA 101 shall be controlled by the FACP.

Exceptions to FACP Tie-in

For Vertical Fire Doors Only

Section 5.3.2

Vertical fire doors may be released by means other than the FACP if: The release mechanism is failsafe (releases the door in case of power failure) The release mechanism is activated by a local smoke detector for that specific door The release mechanism is manually activated at the door with a key or other suitable means

For Horizontal Fire Doors Only

Section 5.3.3

Horizontal fire doors may be released by means other than the FACP if: The door is required to be open when a fire alarm is initiated and cannot be closed while the alarm is active The door is part of a smoke management system that requires the door to open in a specific sequence or at a specific time

Fire Doors with Fusible Links and Controllers Only

If the vertical fire doors only have fusible links and a controller, and are not released by any external device, they

do not need to be tied to the FACP
.

Horizontal Fire Doors Without Smokes or FACP Tie-in

Horizontal fire doors that do not have smokes or a FACP tie-in

are not compliant with NFPA 105
