Question: Ok so there's two buildings right next to each other one building has a spot light with a three way ss and an outlet the other building has the other end of the three way and an outlet. Now both outlets have to be constant and there is only 4 wires doing between buildings how is it done
Wiring Diagram (Using Underground Conduit)
Materials
4-conductor electrical cable Underground conduit (4-inch diameter) 12/2 NM cable Electrical boxes and covers Three-way switches Electrical tape
Steps
1.
Run Conduit Underground
Dig a trench between the two buildings and install a 4-inch underground conduit. The conduit should be buried about 18 inches deep.2.
Pull Cable
Pull a 4-conductor electrical cable through the conduit. Leave about 6 inches of excess cable on each side.3.
Install Electrical Boxes
Install electrical boxes at the surface level of each building, near the desired outlet locations.4.
Connect Cable to Three-Way Switches
Cut 6 inches of 12/2 NM cable and connect it to the three-way switch in Building A. Connect the black wire to the black terminal, the red wire to the red terminal, and the white wire to the common terminal.5.
Connect Cable to Outlet 1
Cut 6 inches of 12/2 NM cable and connect it to Outlet 1 in Building A. Connect the black wire to the brass terminal, the red wire to the dark terminal, and the white wire to the silver terminal.6.
Connect Cable to Electrical Box 2
Cut 6 inches of 12/2 NM cable and connect it to the electrical box in Building B. Connect the black wire to the black terminal, the red wire to the red terminal, and the white wire to the common terminal.7.
Connect Cable to Outlet 2
Cut 6 inches of 12/2 NM cable and connect it to Outlet 2 in Building B. Connect the black wire to the brass terminal, the red wire to the dark terminal, and the white wire to the silver terminal.8.
Splice Cables in Conduit
Pull the 4-conductor cable into the electrical box in Building B and splice the same-colored wires together. Wrap electrical tape around each connection for insulation.9.
Install Covers
Install covers on all electrical boxes.
Operation: Three-way switches in both buildings can independently control both outlets. Outlets 1 and 2 will always remain powered, even when both three-way switches are in the "off" position. Flag for review
