Question: Just a few quick questions on the application process. how long does it generally take to hear back from the state once you've sent your application in? i mailed my app certified mail so I know they received it Feb 22. The board met in march but didnt get to me then. they met again April 6th and I believe they got to my application since the cashiers check for the application fee of $100 was cashed on april 6th. how much longer do i have to wait to hear from them? also, if my application is rejected will i be notified? trying to reach a live human being on the phone in newark is impossible. thanks.

Application Processing Time

The processing time for applications varies depending on the state and the current workload. It can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months to receive a response.

Notification of Receipt and Application Progress

Most states will send an acknowledgement of receipt once they have received your application. They may also provide periodic updates on the status of your application.

Notification of Rejection

If your application is rejected, you will typically be notified in writing. The reasons for rejection will be stated in the notification.

Contacting the Board

It is understandable that reaching someone on the phone can be challenging. You may try sending an email or using the state's online contact form to inquire about your application status. Be sure to provide your name, application number, and any other relevant information.

Based on your situation:
Since the board met on April 6th and your application fee was cashed, it is reasonable to assume that your application was reviewed at that time. If you have not received a response within a few weeks, you can consider reaching out to the board via email or the online contact form. If your application is eventually rejected, you should be notified in writing. Flag for review
