Question: does anyone know the failure rate for T8 lamps. We are doing a large fixture replacement where i work and it seem to me we are having alot of bad lamps.
Reported Failure Rates for T8 Lamps
Industry average
1-2% per 1000 burning hours (BPH)
Average lifespan
10,000-12,000 BPH
Factors Influencing Failure Rates
Quality of the lamp
Lower-quality lamps tend to have higher failure rates.
Operating conditions
Temperature, humidity, and electrical conditions can impact lamp life.
Installation practices
Proper installation and maintenance can reduce failure rates.
Usage patterns
Frequent on/off cycling or operating at high voltage can shorten lamp life.
Specific to Your Situation
It is important to consider the following when assessing your failure rate:
Quantity of T8 lamps installed
A large number of lamps may increase the likelihood of encountering some failures.
Brand and quality of lamps
Consider the reputation of the lamp manufacturer and the quality of the lamps you are using.
Operating environment
Check the temperature, humidity, and electrical conditions in the fixtures where the lamps are installed.
Installation practices
Ensure that the lamps are properly installed and that there are no loose connections or other potential issues.
Usage patterns
Monitor how often the lamps are turned on and off, and at what voltage they are operating.
Recommendations
Use high-quality lamps
Invest in T8 lamps from reputable manufacturers.
Optimize operating conditions
Ensure proper temperature, humidity, and electrical conditions.
Follow proper installation practices
Train technicians to install lamps correctly.
Monitor usage patterns
Track on/off cycles and operating voltage to identify potential issues.
Consider preventative maintenance: Regularly inspect and replace old or failing lamps to reduce the risk of sudden failures.By addressing these factors, you can improve the reliability of your T8 lamps and reduce the failure rate. Flag for review
