Question: Is a doctors office considered in the code to use Hospital grade MC cable and devices? Let the debate begin!!
Yes, a doctor's office is considered in the code to use Hospital grade MC cable and devices.NEC 517.13(A)(1) - Patient Care Areas. In patient care areas of hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics, and similar patient care areas, Type MC cable shall be permitted only where identified and listed for use in patient care areas.NEC 517.13(A)(2) - Other than Patient Care Areas.Type MC cable shall be permitted in areas other than patient care areas in hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics, and similar patient care areas, where such areas are either supervised by qualified persons or are used as offices.
Since a doctor's office is a similar patient care area, Type MC cable is permitted to be used in the areas that are used as offices.Other Considerations:* The authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) may have additional requirements for the use of MC cable in patient care areas. Flag for review
