Question: I'm trying to find if my communications wiring and my DC wiring will both be permissable in the same raceway? The comm wire is part of the DC system! Also, I have reviewed 690.4 paragraph B, which states comm wire can not be run in the same raceway with AC branch circuits or feeder? Anyone have an opinion or fact? Does it fall under "same insulation type" requirement? Thanks again.
Regarding DC and Communication Wiring in the Same Raceway
Yes, it is generally permissible to run DC wiring and communication wiring in the same raceway if they belong to the same system. This is because the communication wires are part of the DC system and, therefore, considered to be part of the branch circuit or feeder.
Regarding 690.4(B)
The prohibition against running communication wires in the same raceway with AC branch circuits or feeders does not apply in this case because the communication wires are not being run with AC circuits. They are being run with DC circuits, which are not included in the prohibition.
Same Insulation Type Requirement
The requirement to use the same insulation type when running multiple conductors in a raceway applies to all conductors in the raceway, including the communication wires. If the DC wiring and communication wiring have different insulation types, they should be separated by a barrier or otherwise isolated to prevent contact.
Conclusion:
Based on the provided information, it is permissible to run DC wiring and communication wiring in the same raceway if they belong to the same system and the insulation types are compatible. Flag for review
