Question: i know emt needs to be support every 3 ft from box etc... my ?? is shall you put a strap at 3ft from a coupling from both directions..im to the understanding that each 10ft of pipe is its own, so a guy on the job tells me on a 50ft run, that 1 strap per pipe is acceptable.
Yes, you should place a strap at 3 ft from a coupling from both directions.
According to the National Electrical Code (NEC), EMT (Electrical Metallic Tubing) requires support within 3 ft of every box, cabinet, coupling, or fitting. This means that a strap should be placed at 3 ft from a coupling from both directions to provide proper support.
Not True
Each 10 ft of pipe is not its own. The NEC requires support within 3 ft of every coupling, regardless of the length of the pipe.
In the case of a 50 ft run
You need to place straps at 3 ft from the couplings at each end (6 ft). You also need to place a strap at 3 ft from the middle of the run (27 ft).* This results in a total of
3 straps for the 50 ft run, not 1.Therefore, the correct answer is that you need to place a strap at 3 ft from a coupling from both directions, and for a 50 ft run, you need 3 straps. Flag for review
