Question: About two years ago I purchased a water heater from the Blue Box. It is one of those smart control models. Last night I had little hot water. Smart control box was blinking telling me to check lower element. Oh boy. After 15 min of nearly impossible foam insulation removial I decided it was too late and would proceed to repair in the AM.I pluged the heater back in and the blinking light stayed solid. Heat ok in smart mode. This morning I had hot water. Just had shower tonight at 9 pm and had plenty of hot water. Smart control says all is good. Seems it just needed to be reset just like an internet modem. FYI.
Water Heater Issue and Reset ProcedureIssue
Two years after purchasing a smart control water heater from Home Depot, the user experienced insufficient hot water and a blinking smart control box indicating a problem with the lower element.
Resolution
After removing the foam insulation with difficulty, the user decided to postpone the repair until the morning. Upon plugging the heater back in, the blinking light turned solid and the water heater began heating properly in smart mode. The user had hot water the following morning and again that evening.
Conclusion:
The issue appears to have been resolved by simply unplugging and replugging the water heater. This suggests that the smart control box may have required a reset, similar to resetting an internet modem. The user will continue to monitor the water heater and contact customer support if the issue persists. Flag for review
