Question: Reviewing some old IR pictures and some NEC violations I had sent to an NEC Instructor.A 3000 amp ( If I remember correctly) parallel feeder, one conductor of C phase was not routed with the other conductors.

NEC Violations

NEC 300.3(B)
: Conductors of the same circuit shall be grouped together and routed along the same general pathway, including at terminations. NEC 300.22(C): Conductors of circuits operating at different voltages shall be routed separately from each other, or by special permission, and shall be separated by a phase barrier.

Consequences

Increased risk of arcing faults

When conductors of different phases are not routed together, they can create magnetic field imbalances, which can lead to arcing faults.

Reduced ampacity

When conductors of the same circuit are not grouped together, the ampacity of the conductors can be reduced due to heat buildup.

Difficult to troubleshoot

If a fault occurs in a conductor that is not routed with the others, it can be more difficult to locate and repair.

Corrective Action:
Reroute the C phase conductor so that it is parallel to and grouped with the other phase conductors.* Install a phase barrier between the C phase conductor and the other conductors if necessary. Flag for review
