Question: I have a customer that is having a 480 v 3 phase well pump installed. The customer is paying the power company to install transformers at the pole. should this be set up as a delta or wye? I havent seen the pump or controll unit.
The correct transformer configuration depends on the voltage requirements of the well pump: Delta
Used for 480V three-phase pumps.
Wye
Used for 277V three-phase pumps.Since the customer is having a 480V pump installed, it is
most likely that a delta transformer configuration will be required. However, it is crucial to verify the pump's voltage requirements with the manufacturer's specifications to ensure proper operation.
Steps to Confirm Transformer Configuration
1.
Obtain Pump Specifications
Contact the pump manufacturer or refer to the pump's data plate to determine its voltage requirements.2.
Check with Power Company
Inquire with the power company if they have any specific requirements for the transformer configuration.3.
Verify Wiring Diagram
If available, review the wiring diagram that accompanies the pump to confirm the expected voltage and configuration.
Note: It is recommended to consult with a qualified electrician to ensure the correct transformer configuration and installation. Flag for review
