Question: All Class A wiring. Is there a code requirement for the addressable modules (monitoring TS or FS) be located within a certain distance from the tamper and flow switches? Can the wire to the tamper/flow switch be within the same raceway as the intelligent loop. All Class A wiring.

Code Requirement for Addressable Module Location

No, there is no code requirement specifying a specific distance between the addressable modules (monitoring tamper or flow switches) and the actual tamper and flow switches.

Wiring Requirements

The wire to the tamper/flow switch should not be in the same raceway as the intelligent loop (Class A wiring).

Class A Wiring

Class A wiring requires the use of an intelligent loop that is supervised by addressable modules. The intelligent loop and wiring must be protected from damage and interference. The flow and tamper switches should be connected to the intelligent loop through separate wires. The separate wires can be bundled together, but they must not be in the same raceway as the intelligent loop.

Reason for Wiring Separation:

Separating the flow and tamper switch wires from the intelligent loop is important because: It reduces the risk of damage to the intelligent loop, which could result in a loss of supervision for multiple devices. It prevents electrical interference between the intelligent loop and the flow/tamper switch wires, which could cause false alarms or operational issues. Flag for review
