Question: 200.4 Neutral Conductors. Neutral conductors shall not be used for more than one branch circuit, for more than one multiwire branch circuit, or for more than one set of ungrounded feeder conductors unless specifically permitted elsewhere in this Code.
Explanation
Neutral conductors carry current back to the source and should not be overloaded. This rule prevents excessive current from flowing through the neutral, which could pose a safety hazard.
Exceptions
There are a few exceptions where neutral conductors can be used for multiple circuits:
Multiwire branch circuits
Neutral conductors can be shared between two or more circuits that share the same current path.
Grounded feeder conductors
Neutral conductors can be shared between two or more sets of feeder conductors that are connected to the same grounded source.*
Specific permission in the Code: There may be other cases where the Code specifically allows for the use of neutral conductors for multiple circuits, such as in certain types of commercial or industrial installations. Flag for review
