Question: What is the minimum spacing (if any) between electrical panels? The only clearances that I know of is 36" in front of panel and 6' and some inches in height. I have seen some electrical panels spaced 3" to 4" apart. Not sure if that's correct. I couldn't find anything in NEC 2008. Thanks.

NEC 2008 does not specify a minimum spacing between electrical panels.

However, there are several factors to consider when spacing electrical panels, including: Accessibility

Ensure that there is sufficient space in front of each panel for maintenance and repairs. The NEC requires a minimum clearance of 36 inches in front of the panel.

Ventilation

Electrical panels generate heat, so it's important to provide adequate ventilation. Spacing panels a few inches apart can aid in heat dissipation.

Safety

Avoid placing panels too close to combustible materials or other equipment that could create a fire hazard.

Code requirements

Some local codes may have specific requirements for spacing between electrical panels. It's always best to check with the local building code authority. While the NEC does not mandate a specific minimum spacing,

it's generally recommended to space electrical panels at least 3-4 inches apart.
This spacing provides adequate clearance for maintenance, ventilation, and safety. Flag for review
