Question: I have a job were I have to install about 3K feet of 3/4" emt on a roof. This appears to be a fairly easy install. Attached to brick approx 3 feet off of roof, then along rooftop on stand-offs and attached to HVAC units. Can anyone advise how many man-hours to charge per x feet of conduit? Thanks.
Factors to Consider
Complexity of the route (straight runs vs. bends and offsets) Height and accessibility of the installation Number of stand-offs and HVAC units for attachment Labor rates and overhead costs
Estimated Man-Hours per 100 Feet of Conduit
Straight runs
1.5 - 2.5 hours
Bends and offsets
2.0 - 3.5 hours
Elevated or difficult access
Add 0.5 - 1.0 hour per 100 feet
Total Estimated Man-Hours for 3K Feet of Conduit
Straight runs
3,000 feet / 100 feet 2 hours = 60 hours
Bends and offsets
Assuming 25% of the route requires bends and offsets: 3,000 feet x 0.25 = 750 feet 750 feet / 100 feet 3 hours = 22.5 hours
Elevated or difficult access
Assuming 15% of the route is elevated or difficult to access: 3,000 feet x 0.15 = 450 feet 450 feet / 100 feet 0.75 hour = 3.38 hours
Total
60 hours + 22.5 hours + 3.38 hours =
85.88 hoursRecommended Charge Rate
Multiply the estimated man-hours by your hourly labor rate, plus any applicable overhead costs.
Example
Labor rate: $50 per hour Overhead: 20% Total charge rate: $50 x 1.2 = $60 per hour* Total cost: 85.88 hours x $60 =
