Question: The underground feeder pipe from Generator to Fire pump was cut by demo guys with a jackhammer. The company called in used butt splices to correct this mistake. My thoughts were that you treated this like a service feeder and splices were not allowed. I couldn't find a specific code article. Any suggestions Thanks in advance

NFPA 110, Standard for Emergency and Standby Power Systems

NFPA 110 addresses the electrical requirements for emergency and standby power systems, including fire pumps.

Article 8.5.
3.2
of NFPA 110 states:> "Circuit conductors shall not be spliced except as permitted in 8.5.
3.3."Article 8.5.
3.3
permits splices only in the following cases: For tap conductors that connect to a feeder conductor For repair of damaged conductorsThe use of butt splices to repair the feeder pipe from the generator to the fire pump is not permitted under NFPA 110 because it is not a tap connection and the feeder pipe was not damaged.

Conclusion:

The company's use of butt splices to repair the feeder pipe was a code violation. The feeder pipe should be replaced with a new section of pipe without any splices. Flag for review
