Question: I am installing a 50 amp 4 wire subpanel in a home, can i install 8/3 romex with ground, I checked the insulation on the number 8 's is THHN?

No, 8/3 romex with ground cannot be used to supply a 50 amp subpanel. The ampacity of the wire is 40 amps, which is not sufficient to supply a 50 amp subpanel. You must use 6/3 romex with ground, which has an ampacity of 55 amps. Flag for review
