Question: We have a project in article 645 compliant data center. Client needs to install 48VDC plant, cabling from the DC plant to the DC distribution bays will be installed under raised floor. Could this DC cabling be installed without a conduit or a wireway? 645.5.D(2) deals with branch circuits for receptacles or field wired equipment so I don't think it is applicable.645.5.D.(5) does not cover this either.Any help would be appreciated.

645.5.D(6) Data Center Branch Circuits(6) Power Cables. Power cables for data center branch circuits shall be installed in accordance with 645.5.D(6)(a) through (e) of this section

(a) Wiring Methods. Power cables for data center branch circuits shall be installed using one of the following wiring methods:

(iv) Without conduit or wireway under raised floors if the cables are

(A) Listed flexible cord cable

, which is type S, ST, SO, STO, SJ, SJO, SJT, SJTO, or equivalent, with a minimum ampacity not less than the ampacity of the circuit.
(B) Listed extra-hard-usage (EHW) cord cable, with a minimum ampacity of 15 A.(C) Factory-assembled, listed data center power distribution cord assemblies.(ii) Flexible cord cables used in accordance with 645.5.D(6)(a)(iv)(A) shall be of a type identified for the use intended250.124(E) Use and Installation of Flexible Cords and Cables.(6) Flexible Cords and Cables under Raised Floors. Flexible cords and cables approved for under raised floor use shall be permitted under raised floors without being enclosed in a raceway.Based on the code sections provided,

the DC cabling under the raised floor can be installed without a conduit or wireway if the cables are listed flexible cord cable, EHW cord cable, or factory-assembled, listed data center power distribution cord assemblies.

Additional Considerations: The cables must have a minimum ampacity not less than the ampacity of the circuit. The cables must be installed in a manner that protects them from physical damage.* The installation should follow the manufacturer's instructions for the specific cables being used. Flag for review
