Question: I replaced a "fisheye" style photocell (Tork 3002) on a wallpak fixture where I work a few months ago. It worked just fine, as I fully expected it to. A couple of weeks ago we had a thunderstorm with some nearby lightning strikes. I always come to work before daylight, partly to check all the site lights. The folowing morning that wallpak was out. Great. I'll see what's up in a little while. Sun came up, wallpak lit up and stayed on all day. Came back before dawn the next day and the wallpak was out. Sun came up and it lit! This photocell has religiously reverse operated ever since. The only thing I can think of is that ligtning somehow freaked it out. I have never seen this before.

Possible Causes

Lightning Damage

Lightning can cause electromagnetic interference that can damage the photocell's electronic circuitry.

Reversed Wiring

If the wiring to the photocell was accidentally reversed during the replacement, it could cause it to operate in reverse.

Faulty Photocell

The photocell itself may have developed a fault that is causing it to malfunction.

Troubleshooting Steps

1.

Check Wiring

Verify that the wiring to the photocell is correct, following the manufacturer's instructions.2.

Replace Photocell

Install a new photocell of the same type. If the issue persists, the original photocell may have been damaged.3.

Examine Fixture

Inspect the wallpak fixture for any signs of damage or loose connections.4.

Check Control Module

If the fixture has a control module, test it or replace it if necessary.5.

Contact Manufacturer

If all troubleshooting steps fail, contact the manufacturer of the photocell or fixture for assistance.

Additional Considerations

Maintenance Schedule

Regularly clean and inspect photocells to prevent dirt or debris buildup that can affect their operation.

Surge Protection

Install surge protection devices on the electrical panel to mitigate the effects of lightning strikes.

Proper Installation:
Ensure that the photocell is securely mounted and protected from moisture and direct sunlight. Flag for review
