Question: What are the differences between a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier and a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Trem-o-verb ?I want to buy one of these heads, and I don't know if they are the same more or less. I want the tipical Dual Rectifier sound...so, would I have this sound if I had the Rectifier Trem-o-verb?Thanks!
Differences
Tremolo
The Dual Rectifier Trem-o-verb has a built-in tremolo effect, while the Dual Rectifier does not.
Spring Reverb
The Trem-o-verb has a long spring reverb tank, providing lush and ambient reverb effects. The Dual Rectifier has a shorter Accutronics reverb tank, which is more limited in its range.
Clean Channel
The Trem-o-verb has a dedicated clean channel, while the Dual Rectifier does not. This channel offers pristine cleans and light overdrive sounds. The Dual Rectifier only has the two main channels (Channel 1 and Channel 2).
Channel 2 Gain
Channel 2 of the Trem-o-verb has a slightly reduced gain range compared to the Dual Rectifier. It provides a more controlled and refined high-gain sound.
Power Output
The Dual Rectifier is available in both 50-watt and 100-watt versions, while the Trem-o-verb is only available in 50 watts.
Similarities
Iconic Dual Rectifier Sound
Both amps have the signature high-gain, scooped midrange tone that has made the Dual Rectifier famous.
Channel 1
Channel 1 of both amps is designed for clean to mid-gain sounds, with bright and articulate voicing.
Channel 2
Channel 2 provides the monstrous high-gain tones that the Dual Rectifier is known for. It has a wide gain range, from tight crunch to saturated lead tones.
Construction
Both amps are built with high-quality components and feature durable construction.
Classic Aesthetics
They both have the classic Mesa Boogie design, with a black tolex exterior and chrome accents.
Conclusion:
If you are looking for the quintessential Dual Rectifier sound, both the Rectifier and Trem-o-verb will provide it. However, the Trem-o-verb offers additional features such as tremolo, spring reverb, and a dedicated clean channel. If these features are important to you, the Trem-o-verb will be a better choice.Ultimately, the decision depends on your specific needs and preferences. If you want the core Dual Rectifier sound with tremolo and reverb versatility, the Trem-o-verb is a great option. If you prioritize high-gain and a more stripped-down design, the Dual Rectifier is a solid choice. Flag for review
