Question: Please see attached sketch shows three feeders feeding Panels A, B, C from disconnect located in electrical room.Feeders for Panel B and C are existing. However feeder for Panel A is new.Panel A is MLO. The feeder goes thru tenant 1 space then to tenant 2 space to Panel A.Questions:1. Panel A is MLO. Is their requirement for Panel A to have main breaker in NEC 2017?2. Can you have multiple feeders feeding the tenant 2 space NEC 2017?

1). Yes.

NEC 2017 requires a main breaker in Panel A since it is an MLO panel.

NEC 2017, Article 408.36(A) states that "Each feeder supplying a panelboard shall be protected by an overcurrent device at its supply end in accordance with the requirements of Article 210."

NEC 2017, Article 408.36(B) further specifies that "The overcurrent device protecting a panelboard shall be located at the point where the feeder enters the panelboard."

Therefore, Panel A must have a main breaker installed at the point where the feeder enters the panelboard.2). Yes, you can have multiple feeders feeding the tenant 2 space under NEC 2017.

NEC 2017, Article 210.23(A) states that "Feeders shall be permitted to supply only one distribution panelboard."

However, NEC 2017, Article 210.23(B) provides an exception for feeders that supply "one or more additional panelboards through overcurrent devices installed at the point of entrance to the additional panelboard(s)."

Therefore, the feeder for Panel A can pass through the tenant 2 space and supply the panelboard in the tenant 2 space, provided that there is an overcurrent device installed at the point of entrance to the panelboard in the tenant 2 space. Flag for review
