Question: I have plans that show condo dwelling unit in which has panelboard in hallway inside the dwelling unit and has duct passing over it.The duct is inside ceiling its not exposed like in electrical room. Assume its in dedicated space but ceiling over it just like in any typical condo.I was wondering if NEC 2017 section 110.26(E)(a) would apply to my situation or not?

NEC 2017 section 110.26(E)(a) does not apply to your situation.

NEC 2017 110.26(E)(a)> Electrical equipment shall not be installed in close proximity to sources of heat that could cause a temperature rise that would adversely affect the operation or rating of the electrical equipment.

Discussion

The duct in your situation is not a source of heat that could cause a temperature rise that would adversely affect the operation or rating of the electrical equipment. The duct is located inside the ceiling, which is a dedicated space that is not exposed to the same heat sources as the electrical equipment. Therefore, the duct does not pose a hazard to the electrical equipment and NEC 110.26(E)(a) does not apply. Flag for review
