Question: What are other jurisdictions doing about Temp poles as regard to 230.71 requiring a single disconnecting means for services?Do you know of any manufactures making temp poles that would meet this standard?
Other Jurisdictions
Various other jurisdictions have addressed the issue of temporary poles and the requirement for a single disconnecting means in NEC 230.71 in different ways: California
The California Electrical Code (CEC) allows for the use of temporary poles, but requires that all services have a single disconnecting means located at the point of attachment to the permanent structure.
Oregon
The Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR) require that all services have a single disconnecting means at the point of attachment to the permanent structure, but allows for the use of temporary poles under "special permit" for a limited duration.
New York
The New York State Electrical Code (NYSEC) requires that all services have a single disconnecting means at the point of attachment to the permanent structure, and does not allow for the use of temporary poles for service installations.
Washington
The Washington Administrative Code (WAC) requires that all services have a single disconnecting means at the point of attachment to the permanent structure, and allows for the use of temporary poles only for temporary installations.
Manufacturers of Compliant Temporary Poles
There are a few manufacturers that offer temporary poles that incorporate a single disconnecting means to comply with NEC 230.71: Hubbell Power Systems
CurveConnect™ Temporary Pole with Integral Switch
TE Connectivity
TempGuard® Temporary Pole with Integrated Switch
Eaton
Cooper Power™ EZ-Plug™ Temporary Services Pole
Siemens
Sentron™ Temporary Pole with Integrated Disconnect
Additional Considerations
In addition to the above, it is important to note that the installation and use of temporary poles are often subject to local regulations and permit requirements. It is essential to consult with local authorities and obtain necessary permits before installing or using temporary poles for electrical services. Flag for review
