Question: I don't have my code book with me. A 200 amp sub panel fed with copper. Should that have a #4 or #6 copper equipment ground. I think it's 4, somebody is trying to tell me it's #6I know the conductor to the cold water is #4Nec 2008All copper

According to the National Electrical Code (NEC) 2008, a 200 amp sub panel fed with copper should have a #4 copper equipment ground.

Here is the relevant section from the NEC:> 250.120 Equipment Grounding Conductor, Size. The equipment grounding conductor shall not be smaller than the following:>> (6) For a service rated not over 200 amperes, a copper conductor shall not be smaller than No. 6, and an aluminum or copper-clad aluminum conductor shall not be smaller than No. 4.
