Question: I have heard arguments both ways whether mobile generators on wheels, or skid mounted, with cables connect by plugs, need to be UL 2200 or not. I have heard from one source that they don't and never will be, but some users insist on applying this requirement to their specs. Anyone know the real story on this?

UL 2200 Applicability to Mobile Generators

Mobile generators on wheels or skid mounts with cables connected by plugs do NOT require UL 2200 certification.

Basis

UL 2200 applies to "Stationary Engine Generator Assemblies". Mobile generators are not considered stationary, as they are designed to be transported and used in various locations.

Official UL Stance

UL has explicitly stated that UL 2200 does not apply to mobile generators:> "...since mobile generators are not permanently installed and are intended to be portable, they are not considered to be Stationary Engine Generator Assemblies. Therefore, they are not subject to UL 2200." - [UL Inquiry Response](https://knowledge.ul.com/static/pdf/ul/public/docs/en/standard_process/requirements/UL_2200_Inquiry_Response_042517.pdf)

Additional Considerations:
Mobile generators may require other certifications, such as ANSI/NFPA 110. Users may still impose their own specifications, including requiring UL 2200 compliance, based on their specific needs or preferences.* It is important to check with the local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) for any specific requirements they may have.
