Question: I want to see who can solve this. Upon installing underground wet niche lights in tank, installed in concrete pillars with proper bonding, they are too dirty to see the light. Told the owner this would happen. Any advice about trying to float the fixturs on surface ouy of the can
Prevent Dirt Buildup
Encapsulation
Create a protective enclosure around the fixtures using epoxy, silicone, or casting resin. This will seal the fixtures and prevent dirt from entering.
Fiber Optic Cables
Use fiber optic cables to transmit light to the fixtures. This eliminates the need for direct exposure to the water and reduces dirt buildup.
Float Fixtures on Surface (Not Recommended)
Safety Concerns
Fixtures designed for underwater use should not be floated on the surface due to potential electrical hazards.
Temporary Solution
This is not a recommended long-term solution as it may void fixture warranties and pose safety risks.
Alternative Solutions
Periodic Cleaning
Regularly remove fixtures from the water to clean them thoroughly using a non-abrasive cleaner. This is a labor-intensive option but will maintain water clarity.
Filter Optimization
Ensure the filter system is running effectively to minimize dirt and debris in the water.
Chemical Treatment
Introduce water clarifier or flocculant to remove suspended particles and improve water clarity.
Consider Alternative Fixture Placement
Install fixtures in locations less prone to dirt buildup, such as on a shelf or overhang.*
Upgrade to Self-Cleaning Fixtures
Some manufacturers offer self-cleaning fixtures that utilize a rotating brush or UV light to keep the lens clear.
